SITE ANALYSIS:
The site we chose was the area between the junkyard and the segregation unit. We tried to create a space where industrial tourism can be experienced. We were looking at all processes involved in sewage water treatment.
SITE PLAN WITH INTERVENTION:
We were looking at all the processes involved in sewage water treatment. The water is taken from the drainage of the residential buildings after which it goes through bar screen then the grit tank, the primary and secondary clarifiers then to the aeration tank and finally to the chlorination tank where the water is fully treated and used in the toilets for flushing purposes.
A reedbed is also installed and the cleaned water from the reedbed is used for gardening purposes.
PROGRAMMING AND THE BUILT AREAS:
CONCEPTUAL SKETCHES:
We tried creating a space where the pipes of the sewage treatment plant act a sitting space and the aeration tank happens to be a space where the auction is conducted. The water purification tanks are placed in such a way that there are located at various heights above and below the ground.
ITERATIVE MODELS:
DESIGN MODEL:
Materiality:
The water purification tanks are made of concrete, the pipes of steel and the roof and ground have jaali due to which diffused light is obtained.
LAYOUT PLAN:
GROUND FLOOR CUT PLAN (1.5 M ABOVE GROUND LINE):
BASEMENT CUT PLAN( 1.5 M BLOW GROUND LINE):
The basement consists of a mezzanine floor which acts as a pathway for viewing all activities occurring in the basement. The basement serves to be a space for activities such as an exhibition, storage area, auctions held during the monsoons and also a sitting space.
ROOF PLAN:
SECTIONS:
The sections show that the ground floor has a green roof and basement is supported by retaining wall on all sides. The foundation used is raft foundation as it carries the heaviest loads and this foundation also acts as seating spaces.
SECTIONAL PERSPECTIVE:
SPARTIAL VIEWS:
These spatial views shows that the pipes are occupied by the people for sitting purposes, the mezzanine floor acts as a pathway and a viewing deck.
