IN DEEWARON KE BEECH MEI

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

We started this model by having a site visit to Daman and observing all the places and their climatic conditions and temperatures. Then at a later stage we had to choose a site where we would make an intervention and create an argument stating why we chose that particular site to create a program and what where the drawbacks in the current condition of that space.

The argument that was created was:

The fort wall today draws a line marking the inside and the outside. Although the space outside has lost its ecosystem due to the newly built promenade, the fort wall itself have their respective ecosystems which do respond to each other. The hard materials do not allow the absorption of heat instead the heat is reflected which increases the surface temperature. So can we create an ecosystem outside the fort wall so that it grows over time and then creates a larger ecosystem altogether.

ARGUMENTATIVE DRAWINGS:

The above drawing represents certain conditions that make the space impossible for the humans and animals to inhabit which are the warm breeze from the promenade to the fort wall, the ground heat dissipation and the barrenness of the land. The entire region lacks vegetation and hence there are no shaded spaces for people to rest. The entire environment is controlled hence lacking pause spaces.

SITE SELECTION:

The site that was chosen was the barren land which happens between two privately owned spaces. The space has barren soil due to the replacement of the soil and the space is currently used for parking.

The above diagram shows that there are no pause spaces in the entire Daman region and there are certain space which have the hottest temperatures recorded such as the Macchimar settlement, Jampore beach and the Devka beach. So there is a need of creatin pause spaces for the visitors.

The above image represents the chosen site has large human circulation all over that space and is best accessible from all sides and even the parking space is not disturbed.

PROGRAMS:

The main aim of constructing a program on a barren land was to ensure certain important features needed for rest or was was needed. A place which feels like an oasis in a desert.

So the space would consist of:

  1. A toilet space

  2. Rest space for the visitors and drivers

  3. A farm

  4. A chemist shop

  5. A room for the house help

  6. Storage for keeping the farm produce

Next, the spatial arrangements of all the programs were done as shown below.

The toilets were designed individually for the men, women and the physically challenged.

The total no of toilets were:

Shown below are some conceptual sketches of sensorial toilets with a vertical overhead farming.

Next we started figuring out and calculating how much area will be occupied by each program space and therefore defining the structure by including all the amenities and mapping them.

Next we thought of having a farm so the plants that grow with grey water should be placed near the toilets and those plants will be banana, almonds, vines and other shrubs.

Series of drawings depicting how the space will be occupied by the tourists as well as the locals. The spaces mainly occupied will be the toilets, chemists, farms and the pockets spaces made into the walls or the walls have spaces of people to occupy.
