PATTERNS AND FORCES

Updated: Dec 28, 2022

MODULE 1

For this module we were told to grab random objects having some mechanical working and then we were told to analyze its components, forms, lines and planes and the forces acting on the lines and planes.

The object that I chose was a MECHANICAL SHARPENER. The fascinating part about a mechanical sharpener is that it has a blade inclined at a certain angle due to which the pencil gets sharpened and there is a holder whose sole purpose is just to keep the blade fixed and at a particular angle.

AN OVERALL VIEW OF THE SHARPENER:

Next we were told to IDENTIFY THE SET OF COMPONENTS used in their specific objects. For me, the main part of the sharpener were as shown below:

The parts are a rotatory blade, a holder to keep the blade in a fixed position, a section to hold the pencil tightly( the point where it will be sharpened), a spring and some screws.

INDENTIFICATION OF LINES AND PLANES:

IDENTIFICATION OF FORCES ACTING ON DIFFERENT LINES AND PLANES AND IT'S MOVEMENT:

The forces acting on the sharpener are: Firstly the input is applied on the handle of the sharpener from where it is rotated. Then the bending as the handle is rotated. Twisting force at the blade as it sharpens the pencil and the breaking force at the pencil when it is getting sharpened.

The final step of this module was to show THE ARTICULATION OF THE MECHANICAL SHARPENER:
